Gainesville Parks and Recreation Department officials announced Friday morning the closure of a public walkway and a boat ramp as the level of Lake Lanier continues to rise.

The Longwood Park Lake Walk and the Holly Park Boat Ramp will remain closed until further notice.

At 11 a.m. Friday, the level of Lanier was 1074.90, almost five feet above full winter pool.

The U.S Army Corps of Engineers has also closed several federal amenities around the lake as the result of high water levels.

In this file photo from January 2019, the walkway at Longwood Park was flooded, much the same as it is this week. The rising level of Lake Lanier has prompted park and ramp closures in Gainesville and other parts of the region. (Photo: Joy Holmes)
