Six northeast Georgia area teams moved into the Elite 8 round of the Georgia High School Association basketball playoffs Wednesday.

The most thrilling game of the night came at Nichols Arena at Riverside Military Academy as Shad Dabney hit a running shot with 2.3 seconds left to lift the Eagles to an improbable 64-63 come-from-behind win in Class A Private. They trailed by 13 with three minutes left and Dabney scored 15 points in the final 1:54 of the game. It victory marked the first time the Eagles have ever advanced to the Elite 8 round.

The Jefferson girls also took a big win in Class 3A knocking off 2018 state runner-up Greater Atlanta Christian 84-68 in Norcross. Also in Class 3A, the Dawson County girls beat Lovett 62-55 in Atlanta while the North Hall girls could not get past Hart County, losing 73-66 in Hartwell.

The Buford girls in Class 5A, the Flowery Branch girls in Class 4A, and the Rabun County girls in Class 2A all took lopsided victories at home to advance. The Banks County girls fell 55-45 to Douglas-Atlanta to see their season come to an end.

Six more northeast Georgia area teams will be in action on Thursday -- four boys and two girls teams -- trying to advance to the quarterfinals.
