ATHENS — Cherokee Bluff opened its first-ever baseball season in grand style Monday on the opening day of the 2019 prep baseball season.

The Bears got a no-hit outing from senior Parker Shope in a five-inning, 12-0 rout of Cedar Shoals on the road. Shope just missed out on a perfect game with an error in the bottom of the fifth. However, he fanned 12 while facing the minimum 15 batters.

Coach Jeremy Kemp said it was an emotional day.

"All the hard work that has gone into getting this program up and running and the support that the community has given us...this just feels great," Kemp said. "I'm just so proud of the guys. It's finally nice to just get out on the field and play. It was a big day for everyone."

Cherokee Bluff (1-0) scored one run in the second, two in the third, and then blew the game open with a 9-run fourth. Carsen Plumadore banged out three hits and had 4 RBI to lead the Bears offense. Jackson Kemp also had three hits and two RBI while Shope and Ashton Balizet had two hits each and two RBI combined. Dylan Kantz and Brody Beal had one hit each for the Bears.

Cherokee Bluff will be back in action on Wednesday playing host to Cedar Shoals in its first-ever home game.
