A Lawrenceville man led police on a chase Friday morning that led to him crashing into a gas main that caught fire and disrupted power to the area.

A Lawrenceville Police spokesman told the AJC that 24 year-old Nashawn Wiggins was wanted on probation violation and failure to appear charges when he refused to cooperate with a traffic stop. Authorities say during the chase, he crashed into a power pole on Grayson Highway near Simonton Road.

Tommy Rutledge, Captain with Gwinnett County Fire Services, said fire crews worked to contain the gas main leak and prevent the fire from spreading until the gas company could turn off the flow.

The hospital treated Wiggins for minor injuries.
