Lawrenceville appoints first black city council member

A newly appointed Lawrenceville city council member makes history as the first black board member.
 
Recommended by former council member Tony Powell, whose seat she will be filling, Victoria Jones starts her term February 20th, according to the AJC.
 
She was chosen from a pool of about 16 candidates according to the city.

Powell stepped down to fulfill a campaign promise to only serve 8 years.
