After 17 rounds of competition, Colton Hewell emerged as the best speller in the county in the 2019 Hall County Spelling Bee.

Hewell, a 7th grader at East Hall Middle School, won the competition by correctly spelling the word "offal" and then the word "muttonchops."

Hewell, along with Davis Middle School 6th grader Ava Nardone, who finished as runner-up, will represent Hall County in the district competition.

Lola Adeyinka, a 7th grade student from West Hall Middle School, will act as the alternate for the district bee, since she finished third in the Hall County contest.

The 2019 Hall County Spelling Bee was held Friday, Feb. 1 at Lanier Charter Career Academy (LCCA). A total of 35 students competed in this year's contest.
