A Cobb County man has been named the director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and a west Georgian will replace a Gainesville man as head of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.
Gov. Brian Kemp has chosen Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds to lead the GBI. He will succeed Vernon Keenan, who retired Jan.1 after 40 years with the agency, 15 as director. A former police officer, chief magistrate judge, prosecutor, and criminal defense attorney, Reynolds, a Rome, Ga., native, was elected District Attorney for Cobb County in 2012.
Kemp has also chosen Allen Poole to lead the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, a post that Blackwood held throughout Gov. Nathan Deal's two terms in office. Poole is a past chairman of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia, former Georgia state trooper, and small businessman.
Blackwood had confirmed on Facebook a couple of weeks ago that he would not be continuing as GOHS director while thanking Deal for the opportunity to serve in his administration.
