A Gainesville woman faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence, after causing a single-car accident that temporarily shut down a portion of Browns Bridge Road late Saturday morning.
Sharon Bowles, 54, faces additional charges of Failure To Maintain Lane and Use of Safety Belts (No Seatbelt) after Cpl. M. Patterson with the Georgia State Patrol says her vehicle downed a power pole near the intersection with Memorial Park Drive around 10:19 a.m.
"[She] was traveling east on Browns Bridge Road, negotiating a curve to the left and approaching the intersection with Memorial Park Drive," he explained. "[She] traveled out of the eastbound lane and struck a curb with the passenger-side front tire."
Patterson said Bowles lost control of the vehicle, a 2000 Nissan Maxima, after the tire quickly deflated, at which point she crossed through the intersection and struck a power pole, snapping it in half.
"[She] continued through the power pole and came to an uncontrolled rest approximately 75 feet east of the power pole," Patterson said.
Bowles suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.
A localized power outage was also reported in the aftermath of the collision.
