RABBITTOWN — East Hall boys basketball coach Seth Vining has resigned effective immediately, according to East Hall athletics director Adam Rich.
"Seth decided that he wanted to step down," Rich said. "He said it was the best option for him and for the team. He wanted to move forward with his retirement and, at this point, Seth Thompson will take back over as our head basketball coach. We'll evaluate at the end of the season
Vining stepped down after the Vikings 56-52 overtime loss to West Hall in the opening round of the Lanierland Tournament. The Vikings are 4-7 this season under Vining.
Vining was hired in March to replace Seth Thompson, but Thompson stayed on staff to be Vining's top assistant this season. Thompson's Vikings were 13-15 last season and lost to Calhoun, 76-60, in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Thompson will coach the Vikings Saturday morning when they play Lakeview in the consolation round. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m.
