The Gainesville boys basketball team enters this year's Lanierland Tournament as the favorite, but if you take a peek at their record, you might say why?
The Red Elephants are 0-10 heading into this weekend's tournament. The reason for the dismal start could be found or not found on their roster. Big Red lost last year's tournament MVP Rafael Rubel (transferred), their starting point guard in Julio Santana (moved), along with Power 5 college commits Jordan Williams (Georgia Tech) and Makius Scott (South Carolina) -- both decided not to play.
Losing more than 80-percent of their roster has put the Red Elephants in a bit of a rebuilding mode.
But regardless, the general consensus is the Red Elephants are still the favorite to win this year's Lanierland.
Coach Chuck Graham talks about rebuilding the roster with some talented and developing players and what it will take to win the state's oldest invitational tournament.
Lanierland begins on Friday at East Hall High School when the Lakeview Academy girls battle Chestatee for a trip to the semifinals. Tip-off beings at 9:30 a.m.
