DAHLONEGA — Sophia D'Oliveira scored 22 points and Marlie Townley had 17 to outpace Lumpkin County, 64-51 Tuesday night at The Long House.
After a tight first half that ended with the Tigers up 32-31, Dawson County's defense held the Indians to just five points in the third quarter to extend the lead 45-36.
"We turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and were able to get some quick baskets," Dawson coach Steve Sweat said.
The Tigers (7-5, 3-1 Region 7-3A) outshot Lumpkin 32-20 in the final half to take the Region 7-3A win.
Lexi Pierce led the Indians (7-2, 2-3 Region 7-3A) with 14 points. Isabel Davenport and Kate Jackson chipped in 12 points each.
Maddie Anglin added 9 points for the Tigers.

The Panthers (8-0, 3-1 Region 8-2A) smothered Social Circle in the second quarter, allowing just one point and jumping out to a 35-5 halftime lead.
Sophomore Ava Hunter led the Panthers 17 points, while freshman Ellie Cook and sophomore Rebekah Chambers added 11 points each.

The Red Elephants lost a close Region 8-6A bout against Cedar Shoals on Tuesday at home.
Gainesville (2-6) jumped out 12-6 after the first quarter but Cedar stormed back with a 16-point second quarter to cut the Red Elephants lead to one point, 23-22 at the break.
In the second half, Cedar Shoals held Gainesville to five points while knocking down 11 and taking a 33-28 advantage.
Although Gainesville outscored Cedar in the final quarter, the low output in the third was the difference.
Freshmen Zaria Williams led eight Gainesville scorers with 14 points.
Gainesville returns to action at 6 p.m. Saturday at Buford.

Laken Stiles scored 12 points and Hanna Cannon and Gracie Deetz poured in 11 each to lead the Wildcats (9-0, 3-0 Region 8-2A) past Elbert County on the road Tuesday.
