A rabid skunk recently came into contact with a dog in the 5400 block of Concord Circle in the Chestnut Mountain area, according to officials with Hall County Animal Services.

The skunk was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab-Virology Section in Decatur, and Hall County Animal Control was advised Wednesday that the skunk tested positive for rabies. This is the ninth confirmed case of rabies for Hall County in 2019.

Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid skunk was located. If anyone sees an animal acting abnormally in the area, they should contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or Hall County Dispatch after hours at 770-536-8812.

Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies. Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1688 Barber Road in Gainesville.
