RV, boat storage rezoned with conditions by Oakwood council

A new RV and boat storage facility is one step closer to reality in Oakwood after it was rezoned by the city council Monday night.

 

But, the development came with some conditions to keep the residential neighbors that expressed concerns at the meeting happy.

 

First, the council approved the application by Steve Leffers for rezoning roughly seven acres at 4302 McBrayer Road to Oakwood Planned Residential Development from Oakwood Light Industrial, but they required that Leffers ensure the project would use the city sewer system.

 

"There was concern about noise and lighting, and about their wells," said Stan Brown, city manager. "The condition that the council put on the approval was that the dumping station for the RVs be tied in to public sewer. So by not having that into a septic system should provide more than adequate protection for those wells."

 

And, councilman Todd Wilson encouraged Leffers to be a good neighbor.

 

"I would like to direct a comment to Mr. Leffers," said Wilson during the discussion of the motion to approve. "If you would, for the city council, do the good, neighborly thing for us and contact your neighbors that are here today with the concerns and just appease them with the answers."

 

The RV and boat storage facility would feature a gated entrance, a solid metal wall around the back of the property and a dumping station only for those who store their property there. There will be just under storage 200 units, Leffers said in the meeting.

 

Another development that was initially on the agenda, rezoning of roughly 20.5 acres of Atlanta Highway for residential townhomes was tabled at the request of the developer.

 

In new business, the council voted unanimously to pass a moratorium on vape shops in the city limits.
