Stats suggest Buford-Warner Robins could be a classic final

The Class 5A state final between Buford and Warner Robins has all the makings for an instant classic.

It figures to be an interesting clash in styles. The Demons (13-1) are built on offense and have steamrolled their last two playoff opponents 104-17 to reach their third consecutive 5A title game. The Wolves (13-1) are built on defense, evidenced by their first playoff shutout last week -- 29-0 over Jones County -- since a 48-0 win over Maynard Jackson in 2017.

Buford is looking for its first state title since capturing the Class 4A title in 2014. Warner Robins has not won a crown since winning the 2004 Class 4A title.

The two teams will meet at Georgia State Stadium on Friday afternoon for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff with the championship on the line. The game will be simulcast on WDUN AM 550 and WDUN FM 102.9 beginning at 4:30 p.m.

(Below is a look at some history and 2019 season statistics for both teams:)

Buford senior free safety Ace Edwards (18) knocks down a pass during the Wolves' 29-0 semifinal win over Jones County last week.
