Posted 1:50PM on Monday 9th December 2019 ( 4 years ago )

A 20 year old man is at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in stable condition after he was shot in the back Sunday night.

The incident happened near the 1100 block of Desota Street, near Mill Street, in the Newtown area, according to Gainesville Police Cpl. Jessica Van. She said they responded to the scene around 8 p.m.

The victim, a black male from Gainesville, was reportedly a passenger in a vehicle in the area when the incident occurred. Van said they don't know if both vehicles were moving, if both vehicles were stopped, or some other scenario, but they do have some details on the suspects. "Preliminary investigation has determined there were possibly three suspects, described as black males in black hoodies," said Van. "They fired multiple shots at the victim and then fled in an unknown vehicle."

The victim was driven to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and is currently in stable condition.

Two parked vehicles were also struck during the gunfire, but no other injuries have been reported to police. Van said they know the victim was not in the car alone, however they do not know who else or how many people were also in the vehicle at the time.

The investigation is active, and Gainesville Police encourage anyone with information to contact the police department of Investigator Raper at 770-535-3783 or call the tip line at 770 533-5873.Those who wish to do so may provide tips anonymously.
