Banks County fire investigators say a house fire in the Commerce area of the county was accidental in nature.

Banks County Fire/EMS units responded to 1530 Ga. 164, Commerce, just after 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6.

“Upon arrival, they found a single-family residence well involved with fire,” said Banks County Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols. “An aggressive interior attack was made, and the fire was contained to the structure.”

The occupant, who was home at the time of the fire, was not injured.

“The structure was listed as heavily damage, and the cause of the fire has been ruled accidental by Banks County Fire investigators,” Nichols said. “An electric space heater could not be ruled out.”

Firefighters remained on scene until 8:35 p.m. Friday.
