A man suspected in the summer shooting death of a 15-year-old at a Buford gas station has now been indicted in the crime.
Denzel Wilburn, 21, of Buford, was indicted by a Grand Jury on charged of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and armed robbery, according to a report in the Gwinnett Daily Post. The indictment was filed November 6, the paper said, but he was arrested Thursday afternoon.
Wilburn was initially charged with armed robbery days after the July 1 shooting, but those charges were dismissed by a magistrate court.
As AccessWDUN previously reported, Branden Gerena, 15 was shot and killed at a gas station on Thompson Mill Road on July 1, 2019. Wilburn and Savion Dillard, 20, are the suspects in the case. Police believe it started out as a drug deal, with Wilburn and Dillard intending to rob Gerena and another person who was with him. At the time, it was though Dillard was the shooter and Wilburn drove the getaway car.
The Gwinnett Daily Post reports Dillard was on the run following the shooting and was arrested in Green Bay, Wis. He was extradited back to Georgia and was booked in Gwinnett County on August 2. Wilburn initially was arrested without incident.
Both men were not granted bond.
