Hall County Schools officials are asking for the community to extend support to the Hinds family, who lost a father and son in a house fire Sunday.

Jesse Hinds, 40, and Jesse Hinds, Jr., 9, were located deceased at the scene shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday. Hinds, Jr. was a third grade student at Mt. Vernon Elementary School.

There are multiple ways the community can help out the surviving Hinds family, according to Stan Lewis with the school district.

Those able to assist with the physical needs of the family can download the Purposity app and follow Hall County Schools, which allows community members to supply items for students in need as they are posted.

Donations can also be made to the funeral costs at Memorial Park Funeral Home or checks made out to Memorial Park Funeral Home can be dropped off at the elementary school from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday or until noon Thursday. The school cannot accept cash donations.

Lewis said counselors, social workers and other staff members at Mt. Vernon for those struggling with the grieving process.

"We have a team of folks on hand trained to help our students and staff deal with an event as traumatic as this," said Superintendent Will Schofield. "And we will continue to provide that support as long as it is needed. This community is resilient. It will pull together as it always does to provide support and healing. Our hearts go out to the Hinds family in this time of great loss and significant need."
