SUNDAY EDITION: Around Northeast Georgia

*Piedmont College will present its 31st annual service of Lessons and Carols, 7:30 p.m., December 6 and 7 in the Chapel on the Demorest campus. The performances are free.

*The Second Annual Cumming Christmas Parade & Festival will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 5-8 p.m.   The parade route runs from Forsyth Central High School, through downtown Cumming, to the Cumming Fairgrounds via Tribble Gap/Castleberry Road. The parade will be followed by the Christmas Festival at the fairgrounds, with a tree lighting scheduled for 7:30.

*Young Harris College December events calendar.

*Two veteran Barrow County firemen have been promoted.  Steven Ross, who began his firefighting career in 2011 with Barrow County,  was promoted to Lieutenant.  Jason Stanley, a firefighter since 1996 when he started with the Atlanta Fire Department, was also promoted to Lieutenant. 

*One lane of Maple Street in Gainesville next to the Hall County Library will be closed Dec. 9-Dec. 13 as part of the library renovation/expansion.   

*This year's Holiday Boat Parade on Lake Lanier is set for Dec. 14.   Click here or here for more details.

*The annual University of North Georgia Holiday Concert will be held Dec. 6 at Grace Episcopal Church in Gainesville. It is free and open to the public.

*Dr. Yana Kirova-Pancheva has joined NGPG Psychiatry at the Northeast Georgia Physicians Group.

*North Georgia Chamber Symphony Holiday Concert schedule:  Blairsville, Friday, December 6, 7:00, Historic Courthouse on the Square; Gainesville, Saturday, December 7, 2:00, Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1397 Thompson Bridge Rd.;  Dahlonega, Saturday, December 7, 7:30, Dahlonega United Methodist Church, 107 South Park Street, on the corner of Maple.

*The Forsyth County Animal Shelter is waiving its standard $85 pet adoption fee through Jan. 2.

*Gainesville watercolor artist Frank McKay recently presented his painting "Beachcomber" to Gov. and Mrs. Kemp for display in the State Capitol.
