THOMSON — Per GHSA by-law 4.39, GHSA Executive Director Robin Hines conducted a “universal” coin toss to determine which part of the bracket would be “home” in the Class 2A through 7A SEMIFINALS if the two competing teams are equal seeds.
The universal coin toss landed on “heads” meaning that the team in the TOP half of the official GHSA playoff bracket will be the designated home team in the semifinal round in cases where equal seeds meet.
For northeast Georgia area teams, that would mean Jefferson in Class 3A and Rabun County in Class 2A -- both region champs -- would host if matched up with other No. 1 seeds. Buford, in Class 5A, is a No. 2 seed and could face No. 2 seeded Griffin in the semifinals. Of course, meaning both schools win on Friday, however, Buford would be on the road because they are in the "bottom" half of the bracket.
This is only for games between equal seeds. In all other cases, the higher-seeded team will host as usual. Also, this is only for the semifinal round games. \The championship games will be held at Georgia State Stadium (formerly Turner Field) in Atlanta.
