METTER — Union County could not pull off the magic trick for a second straight week.
After claiming their first-ever GHSA playoff win last week, the Panthers were knocked out in a tough 14-7 loss to Metter Friday night.
The Panthers (10-2) did what coach Brian Allison feared most: three huge interceptions, a blocked phone, and a missed extra point.
Even with all the problems, Union County stayed within stricking distance. The Panthers trailed 6-0 at the half and 14-0 early in the fourth quarter.
They got a late touchdown in the fourth quarter and got the ball back with just over a minute left to try and force overtime.
But an Allison interception killed their final hopes.
