Charles Baker, who has been Hall County's Clerk of Courts since 2008, confirmed this past week he will not run for re-election.

Baker's third term comes to a close on December 31, 2020.

"I worked many years in the clerk’s office as a deputy clerk and the last seven years as Chief Deputy Clerk before I was elected as Clerk in 2008," Baker said in an email statement.

He did not cite a specific reason for leaving office.

"I believe the voters in Hall County will elect a good Clerk of Court," Baker said.

Already, two candidates have announced their intentions to seek the post. Jennifer Gibbs, a certified public accountant, launched her campaign on social media in October. Last week, retired Hall County Sheriff's Captain Brad Rounds publicly announced his campaign for Clerk of Court.
