CORNELIA – After an arson fire at a four-unit apartment complex near downtown Cornelia early Monday, firefighters were called back to the scene again the next night.

“There was another fire at the same location Tuesday night,” said Cornelia Fire Marshal Josh Hazle. “We continue to investigate the fires at this location.”

The apartments, located at 457 and 459 Irvin Street, were vacant and no utilities had been connected to them since an Aug. 30 fire that displaced four families.

Monday morning’s fire resulted in a partial collapse of the structure.

As of Thursday night, Hazle said the apartments have been demolished and cleaned up.

Firefighters from Cornelia, Habersham County, Baldwin and Lee Arrendale State Prison battle one of this week's fires at a four-unit apartment complex near downtown Cornelia.
