BLAIRSVILLE — The Union County football team made history with its first-ever playoff win on Friday night at Mike Colwell Memorial Stadium.
The Panthers rallied to beat South Atlanta, 19-15, and advance to the second round of the playoffs. They'll travel to No. 1 seed, Metter, on Friday.
"It's a great feeling -- just that you do it with people you love and that makes a difference," Union County quarterback Pierson Allison said about the win. "It was very special."
Union coach Brian Allison has been involved with Panther football for a long time. He's a Union County graduate and has coached the Panthers for 18 years --- 1996-2001 & 2008-current)
"I think everybody is excited about us and what we've done and the success that we've been able to have," Allison said. "We had some adversity over the course of the season and the cool thing is our kids were able to overcome it. Our kids believe and they're competitors. They want to do whatever it takes to win the ballgame."
