Damages from a house fire in Dawson County Thursday night have been placed at just over one million dollars.
The blaze, which started as a chimney fire, occurred about 11:00 on River Overlook Road.
The first units on the scene “found flames through the roof of an approximately 7,000 sq./ft single family dwelling,” according to a news release from the county. “Our personnel mounted an interior attack before transitioning to ladder truck operations. The fire was declared under control (just after midnight) at which time crews began performing salvage operations of furnishings in the residence."
Firefighters remained on the scene for several more hours locating and extinguishing ‘hot spots.”
“We have estimated the property and content loss at $1,010,000.00,” Chief Danny Thompson said in an email Saturday. “The official dollar value loss will come from the insurance company who represents the owner of the property.”
The Forsyth County Fire Department sent personnel and equipment to help in fighting the fire.
