Abandoned docks are showing up all over Lake Lanier and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking the public's help in alerting Corps officials when one is spotted.

A Corps news release says abandoned docks create a public hazard, potentially having loose boards, jagged metal, and exposed nails and screws;  diminish the natural beauty of the lake's shoreline; harm the environment as materials break down and enter the water;  and, impact taxpayers due to costly removal and clean-up actions.

If you see something, say something. Suspicious activities can include:

*a dock being pushed across the lake

*private docks appearing on the shore of a public recreation area

*launching a dock into the water from a boat ramp

Contact the Lake Lanier Project Office at 770-945-9531 or [email protected]  to report abandoned docks and/or suspicious activities.
