Will Schofield will remain as the superintendent for the Hall County School District for the next three years following Monday's night's contract extension agreement at a Hall County School Board work session.
All five members of the board signed the extension, which is effective through June 30, 2022.
Hall County School Board Chairman Nath Morris said the school district under Schofield's leadership has grown into a system that serves students in a number of different arenas.
"Fifteen years ago when we hired Will, we wanted him to think outside the box," Morris said. "We knew there was so much more to education than just making AYP - at that time. We all felt like we had such a diverse community and there were different ways that our students learned and it was not a one-size-fits-all. I think he saw that 15 years ago."
Morris said Schofield's approach to education has been well-received by parents, teachers and staff.
In addition, Morris said Schofield has made - and continues to make - inroads into community partnerships for Hall County's schools. He pointed to the recent partnership with the Ivester Foundation as just one example of how Schofield has crafted positive business relationships for the district.
"I think that's one of his real strengths," Morris said. "He's respected in the community."
As for his goals for the next three years, Schofield said the district is facing challenges, especially with aging facilities. He said one of his primary focuses will be on educating the community about the need for funding for new school buildings.
"We're really hoping that we can pass this $250 million construction bond issue in March. There are a significant number of our boys and girls that deserve to be in better and more modern space," Schofield said following Monday's work session.
The new contract includes a raise that is in line with the increase offered to Hall County teachers, according to Morris.
