Gainesville's Dhruv Gaur did not win his semi-final round in the Tournament of Champions on Jeopardy!, but his loss will likely be the most remembered in show history.

Guar, who ended the round in third place on Monday, Nov. 11, used Final Jeopardy! to write a message to show host Alex Trebek, who has been battling pancreatic cancer.

The message read "What is we love you Alex!" and it brought Trebek to tears. The word love was replaced by a heart symbol.

In fact, Trebek had to pause for a moment to collect himself.

"That's very kind of you. Thank you," Trebek said, his voice catching. After he regained his composure, he quickly said to Gaur. "Costs you $1,995. You're left with five bucks. Okay."

Gaur, a graduate of Lakeview Academy in Gainesville, is currently a student at Brown University.

Semi-final rounds for the Tournament of Champions continue Tuesday and Wednesday.
