BUFORD — In a battle of ranked teams to open the 2019-20 season, the Jefferson girls took a 54-47 win over Dawson County Saturday in The North Georgia High School Showcase at The Buford Arena.
It was nip-and-tuck affair through the first three quarters. The Lady Dragons (1-0) led 11-10 after the first quarter and took a 20-19 lead into the intermission.
The Lady Tigers (0-1) stormed out of the halftime holding Jefferson to just 6 third quarter points while building a 32-26 lead. But the Lady Dragons exploded in the fourth quarter.
Jefferson took advantage of some Dawson County foul trouble and used a 28-point quarter to pull away for the win.
Marlie Townley led Dawson County with 14 points. Kirklyn Porter added 11, Maddie Anglin and Sophia D'Oliveira scored 9 each, and Mariah Benson had 4 points for the Lady Tigers.
