Suzanne Cindea is Teacher of the Year for the Gainesville City School System - and will now compete for state Teacher of the Year honors.

Cindea is a third-grade teacher at Gainesville Exploration Academy and has been an educator with the school system for seven years having taught as a first-grade teacher for five years prior to teaching third- grade.

She was chosen from among teachers of the year for each of the city schools: Lauren Niles (Centennial), Heather Hagye (Enota), Ashley Hamby (Fair Street), Suzanne Cindea (GEA), Amber Sharkey (Mundy Mill), Victoria Gilleland (New Holland), Iris Butts (GMS), and Kristy Smith (GHS).

“My whole purpose for becoming a teacher was to make a difference in my students’ lives, so getting to see them develop and grow brings me so much joy,” said Cindea. “I love when my students have a “lightbulb” moment after they have worked so hard to learn a concept. It is so inspiring to see them discover their potential. It’s encouraging to know that I’ve touched so many lives along my journey as a teacher.”

“Ms. Cindea is an amazing teacher who has a wonderful, positive energy around her,” said Renee Boatright, Gainesville Exploration Academy Principal.  “She uses that energy to motivate and challenge her students to take initiative in their own learning. She is a shining star at Gainesville Exploration Academy!”
