A convicted rapist mistakenly released from a Georgia prison is back behind bars.
U.S. Marshals and ICE agents caught Tony Munoz-Mendez in Fort Thomas, Kentucky late Wednesday night, according to Atlanta media reports. He had been on the run since Friday when Georgia Corrections Department officials said he was released in error from Rogers State Prison in Reidsville. Those officials have no yet said how the mistake happened.
Munoz-Mendez was imprisoned four years ago for rape and aggravated child molestation charges in Gwinnett County. His victim was the 10-year-old daughter of his live-in girlfriend. The child testified against him in court.
Munoz-Mendez was sentenced to life in prison for the crimes.
