A man serving a life prison sentence for the rape of a 10-year-old Gwinnett County girl has been mistakenly released from custody.

The Georgia Department of Corrections said Tony Maycon Munoz-Mendez, 31, was released from Rogers State Prison in Reidsville on Friday around 11:30 a.m. News of the accidental release was made public on Monday.

"All resources are being utilized to ensure the rapid apprehension of Munoz-Mendez, including the Georgia Department of Corrections Fugitive Unit and US Marshals," read a press statement from the department. "The public is reminded to call 911, and do not approach."

According to a BOLO released by prison officials, Munoz-Mendez is 5'9" tall and weighs 186 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Munoz-Mendez has been in prison since April 2015 following his conviction on rape and aggravated child molestation charges. His victim was the daughter of his live-in girlfriend.
