A plan for a QuikTrip (QT) convenience store on the busy Georgia 365 corridor received final approval from the Hall County Commission Thursday night.
The QuikTrip Corporation had asked the commission to approve rezoning for the 9.72-acre tract at White Sulphur Road on the west side of the highway from Light Industrial to Planned Industrial Development.
"This prototype is what we would consider a fuel stop," said Michael Burke with QuikTrip. "It's not a travel center, it's not a truck stop, it's simply a convenience store with three diesel bays with the ability to expand to five."
Commissioners agreed to a variance that will allow QT to build a 30-foot sign rather than a 10-foot sign. Burke said the increased height would allow motorists to see the sign from a distance.
Hall County Commissioner Jeff Stowe asked that QT consider situating the store on the property so that the gas pumps would not directly face the highway, saying the aesthetics of the project would be more pleasing if the pumps were not the focal point of the store. County planning staff members said they would work with QT to see if his request might be possible.
Burke said construction on the convenience store likely would not start for another two to three months.
