The area's high school football teams continued to march toward the playoffs in Week 9. Meanwhile, some of the area’s athletes turned in big performances.
Cherokee Bluff running back Jayquan Smith led the area on the ground for the second straight week, turning another 200-plus yard rushing performance. The sophomore back rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns in the Bears 41-18 win over East Hall.
Rabun's Gunner Stockton passed for 306 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for another to lead the area's passing attack.
Friday Game Night Top Performers:
-- White County quarterback J Ben Haynes completed 6-of-12 for 163 yards and three touchdowns and rushed 90 yards and three scores in the 42-0 win over West Hall.
-- Colby Clark churned out 193 yards rushing and scored four times while also tossing a touchdown pass to Dawson Crawley in the third quarter and Kolton Jones had 91 yards rushing.
-- Sophomore running back Jayquan Smith rushed 17 times for 201 yards and two touchdowns to lead Cherokee Bluff past East Hall.
-- North Hall's JT Fair rushed 13 times for 130 yards and a touchdown and caught one pass for 30 yards, and Tate Brooks had three rushes for 79 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.
-- Rabun County's Gunner Stockton threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another in the Wildcats' win over Elbert County.
-- Cory Keller had 128 yards rushing and Braxton Hicks finished with 131 yards receiving on just three catches, including a 74-yard TD catch for Rabun County.
-- Gabe Irvin led Buford's ground attack with 23 carries, 167 yards and 2 TDs, while Elijah Turner toted the ball 19 times for 154 yards and a score in the Wolves' win over Loganville.
