An Alpharetta man has been arrested for bringing two handguns onto the property of a Forsyth County public school Wednesday afternoon.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said a suspicious person, later identified as Gene Steven Barbara, 41, was spotted on the campus of Alliance Academy for Innovation on Lanier 400 Parkway around 2:40 p.m.

Two Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office school resources officers (SROs) were on campus, and they confronted Barbara.

The SROs determined Barbara was in possession of two handguns. Barbara had a valid Georgia weapons license with him.

Investigators said while Barbara did not appear to have any intent to cause harm to the school, he was arrested on a charge of possession of firearms in a school zone. He was also cited for loitering and prowling.

Both the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and the Forsyth County Schools Department of Public Safety are investigating to determine why Barbara was on the school campus.
