RABBITTOWN — The East Hall softball team is headed to the quarterfinals in Columbus next week.
The Vikings pulled out a 10th inning Game 1 win on a walk-off error to beat Cook County, 7-6, and blast the Yellow Jackets 11-2 in Game 2 to advance at East Hall Park on Wednesday.
Gracie Smith scored the winning run for the Vikings in a game that was highlight by an Abigail Brown two-run homer in the first inning in Game 1.
Macy Banks picked up the win in the circle, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out seven in 10 innings.
GAME 1 SUMMARY
East Hall jumped out 3-0 after two in Game 1, but Cook scored five-unanswered runs over the next three innings to take a 5-3 lead.
The Vikings finally answered in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game off back-to-back singles from Brown and Calli Hardison to send it to extra innings.
In extra innings, both Cook and East Hall traded runs in the ninth inning to set up the dramatic finish in the bottom of the 10th.
GAME 2 SUMMARY -- EAST HALL 11, COOK COUNTY 2
The Vikings scored 11 runs on 18 hits to eliminate Cook County.
Brown once again provided the big bat for East Hall, ripping a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Her home gave the Vikings control, 7-2.
East Hall tacked on four more runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Ausborn, Banks, Alexis Burce, Callie Dale, Hardison and Gracie Smith all drove in runs for the Vikings.
Banks earned the Game 2 win, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out eight in seven innings.
