A 17-year-old girl was killed and three other people injured in a Sunday afternoon car crash in Lawrenceville.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said the fatal accident happened around 2:15 p.m. on Oakland Road near Herrington Road

Pl. Michele Pihera said in a press statement the driver lost control of a Nissan Maxima traveling westbound on Oakland Road.

"The driver lost control and drove off the right shoulder, overcorrected, spun, and then left the roadway on the opposite side of the road. The vehicle struck a tree in a creek," Pihera said.

Pihera said, Asaviya Hazley of Lawrenceville was seated in the backseat behind the passenger. She died as a result of her injuries.

"The other three occupants were all transported to a local hospital with varying injuries," Pihera said. "Two of them were 20 years old, and the other was 15 years old."

Pihera said no one in the car was wearing a seatbelt.
