Hall County Animal Control has issued a rabies alert for the Clermont area.

The alert is in response to a raccoon that tested positive for rabies on Wednesday. The raccoon was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab-Virology Section in Decatur after it had contact with two dogs in the 5400 block of Clarks Bridge Road.

Both of the dogs were vaccinated for rabies and have been placed on observation according to Hall County Animal Control.

This is the eighth confirmed case of rabies for Hall County in 2019.

Positive alert signs have been posted in the area where the rabid raccoon was located. If you live in this area or you see an animal acting abnormally in the area, contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or Hall County Dispatch after hours at 770-536-8812.

Health officials are urging all animal owners to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies. Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1688 Barber Rd, Gainesville.
