The City of Gainesville's fire chief, who has been involved with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier for more than 30 years, was inducted last week into the organization's Georgia Hall of Fame.
Jerome Yarbrough was part of a ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 4 in Atlanta.
Officials with the local clubs said Yarbrough was a "club kid" for 12 years and then he has served as a board member and volunteer for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier for 20 years.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Georgia is a collective of 35 Boys & Girls Clubs organizations across Georgia. The Hall of Fame celebrates the extraordinary youth, men and women who have made significant contributions to the Boys & Girls Club Movement in Georgia.
"Chief Yarbrough has played a significant role in the success of Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier since 1999," read a statement from the local clubs. "Chief Yarbrough established a strong relationship between the City of Gainesville and Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier. Yarbrough continues to provide expertise to ensure safety of the Clubs and Club kids."
Not only have Yarbrough and his wife Deborah supported the local clubs for many years, all five of his children have been members.
"The continuity and reliability of Yarbrough’s service is remarkable, as he continues to be a staple at the Club and in the community," the statement said.
