A 9-year old and a 12-year-old were found dead in a Cumming house fire by Forsyth County officials early Saturday morning.

The fire happened in the Lanier Heights subdivision in Cumming around 2:40 a.m., Atlanta's WSB-TV reported.

Forsyth County deputies were the first to arrive at the scene, but the responders were unable to enter the home because the fire was too intense, Division Chief Fire Marshal Jason Stover told the news outlet.

Shortly after the deputies arrived, the Forsyth County Fire Department began search and rescue efforts. During the search, firefighters found the two children dead inside the home, Channel 2 reported.

It is unknown whether anyone else was inside the home at the time of the incident.

The case remains under investigation.
