OAKWOOD — Jarvis Evans set a Buford team-record with 213 yards passing on a perfect 8-for-8 in the first half as the Wolves rolled past Johnson 56-7 in both teams’ Region 8-5A openers at Billy Ellis Memorial Stadium.
Buford (6-0, 1-0 Region 8-5A) jumped on the Knights (3-3, 0-1) with 14 first-quarter points behind Evans, who had one touchdown pass. The Wolves pushed the lead to 29-0 before Johnson’s Xzavior Ramsey went 99-yards on a kickoff return in the second quarter.
Buford then turned to its ground game in the second half. The Wolves churned out 274 yards on the ground, led by Elijah Turner’s 75 yards and two scores, including a 51-yard touchdown run.
Gabe Ervin had 69 yards and one TD on just three carries while Victor Vinn had 62 yards on two carries, both touchdown runs of 25 and 37 yards.
Johnson will play host to Walnut Grove next week while the Wolves will play host to Cedar Shoals.
