Atlanta teen killed by stray bullet while asleep

An 18-year-old woman is dead after a stray bullet struck her in her Atlanta home while she was asleep Thursday. 

Officers were sent to the 2900 block of River Ridge Dr. between Orchard Knob and Rosedale Heights in southwest Atlanta around 6 a.m. after a woman reported her daughter had been shot and killed, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. 

The victim was discovered by police with a single gunshot to her chest. Responders confirmed the young woman was dead. 

According to the news outlet, investigators determined shots were fired between at least two shooters and three bullets wound-up inside of the home where the sleeping teen was shot. 

The victim was identified as Jessica Daniels, a recent graduate of South Atlanta High School. 

Daniels' mother. grandmother and grandfather were inside of the home during the incident. No one in the home is thought to have been involved with the shooting nor do police believe the home was targeted. 

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward. As of Thursday no suspects are in custody.
