BUFORD — Buford school officials confirmed Thursday that senior running back Derrian Brown, who is expected to sign a National Letter of Intent with the University of Texas next week on National Signing Day, was hospitalized after a serious medical incident at school.
A statement by Buford Principal Ed Shaddix said Brown had experienced a "medical situation" and that family and friends had asked well-wishers to send thoughts and prayers but that they were not accepting visitors at an area hospital.
A Buford Elite statement said, "(Derrian) is very sick and had surgery today to remove a blood clot from his brain. He has a long road ahead but we are believing that God is going to restore his abilities 100%. Please join us in praying for D and his precious family. #prayfordarrien #hookemhorns #bufordstrong."
Brown rushed for 1,908 yards and 28 touchdowns this past season as the Wolves advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 5A playoffs.
