DAWSONVILLE — Dawson County joined Morgan County and North Murray as the only teams with 20 wins in Class 3A after beating Cherokee Bluff 66-58 Monday at home.

The Region 7-3A contest game was moved up a day from Tuesday in anticipation of a possible winter storm that is expected to hit the northeast Georgia area on Tuesday.

The win for the Tigers (20-4, 9-2 Region 7-3A) also clinched the No. 2 spot outright and they will play host to the opening round of the upcoming Region 7-3A tournament beginning next week.

Dawson County opened the game with a 16-6 run but the Bears closed to within 18-13 in the first quarter and eventually took a 21-20 lead after a 12-3 spurt.

The game went to the half tied at 33 but Dawson County pulled away for a 56-50 advantage by the end of the third quarter.

Luke Chism recorded his 14th double-double of the season for the Tigers with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Jasper Gibson poured in a game-high 24 points to go with 4 assists and 4 steals for Dawson County. Eli Burruss had 7 points and 8 rebounds and Ahmad Kamara had 6 points and 5 rebounds.

Bosko Norman paced Cherokee Bluff (14-10, 5-6 Region 7-3A) with 23 points and Griffin Neville added 16 points for the Bears.

Both teams will close out their regular season schedules on Friday at home. Dawson County plays host to East Hall while Cherokee Bluff entertains North Hall.
