Boys basketball: Banks takes 8-2A win; RMA wins in 8-A; Lumpkin, East Jackson take non-region wins

DAHLONEGA — Jake Granger and Peyton Polk each poured in 17 points to lead Lumpkin County to a 53-49 win over Gilmer Saturday at the Lumpkin gym.

The victory for the Indians (7-17) snapped a two-game losing streak and also avenged a loss to the Bobcats (17-7) earlier in the seaason.

Lumpkin County led 10-7 early but the Bobcats outscored the Indians 21-10 in the second quarter to grab a 28-20 halftime lead. The Indians, however, rallied in the third quarter with a 22-10 run for a 42-38 lead and was able to hold on down the stretch.

Jacob Cumbie had 10 points for Lumpkin County.

Kell Weaver paced Gilmer wth 15 points. Tripp Pierce added 14 for the Bobcats.

 

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 69,
GEORGE WALTON 49

Shad Dabney continued his assault on Region 8-A pouring in 24 points to go with 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals to lead the Egales (17-4, 8-1 Region 8-A) to the win.
 
Riverside can clinch the top seed in the upcoming region tournament with a win over Commerce at home on Friday.
 
Orlando Stevens had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Areeb Ahmad added 11 points and 4 rebounds for the Eagles. Khalid Duke pulled dwon 12 rebounds as well.

 

BANKS COUNTY 71,
OGLETHORPE COUNTY 51

Carl Cleveland poured in 44 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to spark the Leopards to a big Region 8-2A win on the road.
 
The Leopards (15-8, 10-2 Region 8-2A) maintained at least no worse than a share of second place in the region with the victory, which was their third straight.
 
Banks County opened the game with a 17-5 first quarter run but took jus a 26-18 lead into halftime after the Patriots (2-19, 1-11 Region 8-2A) cut into the lead in the second quarter. But the Leopards used a 23-13 third quarter to take control.

Dakota Orr chipped in with 6 points and 10 rebounds. Clay Gosnell added 5 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals and Pierce Martin had 5 boards and 5 assistsfor Banks County.

 

EAST JACKSON 70 
CHESTATEE 58 

The Eagles snapped a five-game losing streak with a road win.

Meanwhile, its was the fourth straight for Chestatee (13-10) which has dropped 6 of its last 7 overall.

Tay Howard and Makayl Rakestraw led East Jackson (9-14) with 18 points apiece.
