The annual Polar Bear Plunge, a fundraiser for the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club, is now set for Feb. 9 after being postponed New Year's Day because of higher-than-usual levels of Lake Lanier.

The event will take place at the Lake Lanier Olympic Park, where it has been held on New Year's Day for more than 20 years.

"With this later date, we are rebranding this to ‘Take the Plunge for the One You Love’, a pre-Valentines show of commitment of crazy love!" the club's Jim O'Dell wrote in an email this week.

The high water levels that forced the postponement Jan. 1 were caused by torrential rains for several days before New Year's Day, which not only raised the water levels but also sent lots of debris into the lake from upstream.

Pre-Registration can be found on the LCKC website www.lckc.org.
