While North Georgians are bundling up during these cold January nights, Jackson EMC is advising customer to remain frugal-minded.
Jackson EMC spokeswoman April Sorrow said with heat pumps in wide use, some people make the error of turning the heat back at night, and she said that practice works against efficiency.
"So when you set it back at night, it works even harder to reach that temperature during the day," Sorrow said. "So, it is much better and much more effective at maintaining a temperature [to leave it at a consistent setting]."
She advised setting the thermostat to 68 degrees. If you need extra warmth, then wear an extra pair of socks and bundle up indoors.
Sorrow added, though it may feel nice, using a fireplace also works against saving money on a power bill.
While forecasters predict a Wednesday night warm-up, they say temperatures will be back in the 20s at night through the weekend.
