Historic school in Matt community of Forsyth County to be purchased by county

The historic Matt school in northwest Forsyth County could see new life as county commissioner vote to purchase the building.

County Attorney Ken Jarrard advised the board to amend their purchase from a 1 point 1 acre property to point 8 acres on Namon Wallace Road.

He explained why he recommended amending the agreement to purchase less land and said, "This was an agreement originally entered into in, I believe, in September of 2018. You may recall we are within our due diligence and I believe there were some concerns raised during due diligence with respect to some environmental mitigation."

Jarrard said, "What we're bringing to you is an amendment to the contract that lowers the acquisition price from $465,000 to $408,696."

The property sits near an expected development including a Publix store at the corner of Matt Hwy and Bannister Road.

The board voted unanimously to approve the purchase of the property.
