Hall County's first rabies case of 2019 reported in Oakwood

The first confirmed rabies case for Hall County for 2019 has been reported in the Oakwood area.
 
Hall County Animal Control officials received word this week that a raccoon came into contact with five dogs on Reed Drive.
 
The raccoon was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab-Virology Section in Decatur. Confirmation of rabies came to the county on Thursday, Jan. 10.
 
Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid raccoon was located. Anyone who lives in the area and sees an animal acting abnormally should contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830. During non-working hours, residents may call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.
 
Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies. Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1688 Barber Rd, Gainesville.
