The gun used in the homicide and suicide of two teenagers in Gwinnett County New Years Eve was stolen, authorities said in an update Friday.

Gwinnett Police said in the press release the firearm was reported stolen from a vehicle that had been broken in to the day before.

The man told police he parked the car on Coleville Oak Lane in unincorporated Lawrenceville around 5:45 p.m. on December 30, and when he came back outside around 6:30 p.m., he found the passenger side door open and his holster lying on the ground.

Police said the firearm was stolen from the glove box, which had been opened, and a flashlight was left on the front seat.

The Coleville Oak Lane residence is nearby the incident location, according to a map provided by Gwinnett Police.

Detectives aren't sure what happened between the theft Sunday and the shootings on Monday. They ask anyone with information to contact their detectives at 770-513-5300.
